Tenzin's arrival was as peaceful and beautiful as could be. He immediately amazed us with a gentle and quiet demeanor. Here are some photos from his first hours with us.

Papa Reed tells the story of his 45 minute drive from Palo Alto to SF to meet him for the first time. There was a broad rainbow in the sky for the entire time he was on the road - right 'over' San Francisco where we all waited to introduce him to his newest grandson.

Mom cherished her time in the care of the lovely nurses and doctors at CPMC and four nights of gentle sleep with her new baby in her arms. Though nothing beat coming home and all being together as A Family Of Four - at last!!

Christmas Visit With Meme!!!

We had such a great Christmas visit with Meme over Christmas. There were many memorable times including making Christmas cookies (more than once!), eating pizza together, snuggling on the sofa safe and dry from the rain outside, a trip to the San Francisco Library to see a special train, and of course, dim sum!!

It was a GREAT one this year! We had a parade at school for which the entire Seal Class dressed up as doctors and then I transformed into Buzz Lightyear, sound effects and all, for the actual holiday on Sunday. Too fun :)

Barcelona

On Thursday we confirmed (thanks, McKie!) that the reason we had been having so much trouble getting train tickets to Barcelona (despite several attempts on-line, at Lyon and at Gare du Nord in Paris...) was that Thursday was a transportation strike in Spain :( Well, we were not going to let that stop us! We decided to drive all the way - what is 400+km to Americans, anyway? It took about four hours after having to backtrack to get my stuffed animal Georgie (accidentally left at the last stop) - and it was so worth it! David and Anjali have a great place and we loved exploring Barcelona for a day and two nights before having to fly back to Paris.

In these photos you'll see us dropping off our trusty car, Xander and his "new friend" in town, and exploring town. Thanks so much for your great hospitality - McKies!! xx

Provence!!

On Tuesday, we loaded back up in our little Cleo after breakfast and started to drive towards Provence. We weren't exactly sure where we were headed, but we knew that we wanted to spend a night in the region and then get to Montpellier - just west of Provence, to catch a train to Barcelona the next day. After a day of gorgeous driving, we landed on Vaison la Romaine, a small village with just a few hotels that were all full! With the sun setting and our appetites for further driving shot, we managed to find a woman who had a room/apartment in her home available to us for the night! Here are some pictures of us driving, picking olives in a park, and eating lunch in a treasure of a fnd along the way.

Burgundy and the Chateau de Lugny

Monday night we stayed at the unreal Chateau de Lugny... a 14th Century masterpiece. It was purchased in a state close to ruins by the current owners in 1967 and opened, after extensive restoration, as a hotel in 1986. Much of the food they serve is from their own farm - most notably the chicken eggs and vegetables (yuummm....). Mom told Daddy and me that she woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep, she was so completely happy. <3 Thank you, Campodonicos, for the great tip!!

On Monday morning, after an amazing time with the wedding and a fun exploration of the neighboring towns, we headed south towards Provence. Along the way we stumbled upon Sancerre, the home of mom's absolute favorite wine (too bad she couldn't have any)!!

By another great coincidence, it just so happened to be harvest time for the grapes - so everywhere we turned, there were people collecting them in the fields or bringning them into town for pressing.

The day after the wedding, we got into our little "Cleo" rental car and headed southwest into the Loire Valley where we reconvened with the wedding party for a weekend reception. Chateau de Reignac is a twelve-room hotel/chateau just outside of Tours. Amazing!

Our Adventures in Europe!

We have a lot to post... so let's get to it!

On September 22, we all boarded a plane and headed to Paris. The plan was to attend Tuhin and Juliette's wedding there, followed by a weekend reception at a chateau in the Loire Valley - Chateau de Rignac. From there we were on our own, as long as we made it back to Paris to catch our return flight on 10/2.

With less than complete plans at the outset, we did pretty well! We made it into Burgundy to spend a night at the gorgeous Chateau de Lugny recommended by our good friends the Campodonicos.... then drove south into Provence and eventually Barcelona where we spent two nights with our friends Dave and Anjali - enjoying a year+ there while Anjali gets her MBA.

For a three year old, I was a major trooper. I met a lot of fun people along the way, thoroughly enjoyed the European playgrounds, and of course fresh french baguette and delicious ice cream throughout our travels. It was a magical time for our family... in part because we felt the magic of my little brother, still cooking in Mommy's tummy, with us along the way.

This first round is of our first day in Paris... the post-wedding boart ride and adventures.

A Visit to Malibu...

Mom and I love to take trips together on occasion. Last month we went to LA for a few days to visit with Claudia and her daughters Sofia and Milla (Malibu); Heather and her son Cooper (Los Feliz); and Corey and Dominique and their daughter Deia (Venice). We have some good photos of our time with Sofia.... We have SO much fun together!

It was a wonderful visit! Now that I am THREE I have a much easier time getting around and participating in the action. I had so much fun with my cousins Chase, Taylor, Felix, Zoe, Evi and Tao.... not to mention all of my cool aunts and uncles and of course, Meme. We played on the beach, swam in the pool, ate ice cream, went crabbing at sunset, saw fireworks, cooked big family dinners, took meandering bike rides, at ice cream, saw turtles and aligators, played with lots of toys and puzzles - and even saw a few World Cup games.

I am taking a few entries to load up some of our favorite pictures... there are a lot and we are always feeling confined by the five pictures per post limit.

Hello there! So sorry that it has been so long since we've posted here. It is a combination of Facebook being a great place to post pictures, a broken camera (replaced TODAY - thanks Meme!), and the general family trend of spending less time with our computers at home. Well, we are back!

So... this was my first REAL Halloween... Yes, my parents have dressed me up for the last two years... but this was the first year that I actually GOT IT... and had to be a participant. They were pretty concerned, to be honest. I was not at all into trying the dinosaur costume that Dad made for me, FROM SCRATCH, up until this morning. We went to my buddy Jackson's birthday party in Pacific Heights and I refused to put my costume on. However, when it came time to trick or treat... and there was candy involved... well, sure, I'll wear a costume to get some candy! Once it was on, I loved being a dinosaur... Happy Halloween!! xx

Today we had a Halloween Parade from school. Our class has been preparing all week. First, we dyed t-shirts red. Then we took a day to cover them in black spots. Finally, we made headbands with antannae with styrofoam balls and pipe cleaners. We even practiced trying them on!

As you can see from the photos , once it was time to dress up and head into town, I wasn't having any of it. I wouldn't even let mom or any of the teachers get close to me with that thing! Me, a ladybug?! Please. All the other little boys and girls can go there... but not me. Hopefully I'll get into the festive mood and wear the dinosaur costume Dad lovingly made for me...

At least the cookies were good. And the antannae balls were fun to play with :)

I have loved horses since before I was even a year old. It has been a couple of months since we went to visit, but I asked a couple of times over the last few days so we went after school yesterday. We saw a rabbit, a couple of deer, a friendly cat and many horses out at the Miwok Stables in Tennessee Valley. I have grown quite fearless of the horses. Here I am feeding one "all by myself, Mommy!"

My First Day of School!

Last Monday was my first day at preschool. Mom and Dad have been pretty excited about it... and I have to say that I was pretty happy myself. I have been talking about it for weeks.

Mom and / or Dad walk me there every day. (Mom says it is the cutest thing she has ever done...) I have my dinosaur lunchbox that Meme gave me... my nap bag and a snack. We draw and paint, have circle time, spend a lot of time outdoors, read books, play in the little kitchen, build things with blocks... all around, it is a lot of fun. The other kids are neat too.

Well, let's just say that I am getting pretty good at this dim sum thing. For starters, I have had more dim sum adventures than my mom did before she became a mom... I had my first experience in a high chair at a dim sum restaurant with Papa Reed in 2007, and I have come a long way since then.

We went to to a new place a couple of weeks ago and it was great! I got to sit in the big chairs and watch the airplanes come and go from my window seat. I tried a few new things too... like a baby octopus and a chicken foot. Not so sure about that one, but my family sure knows that I am an adventurous eater now!

One of my favorite foods is the avocado. We love the avocado at the Mak household. Recently, we had a pit that was eager to grow, so Mom put it in a glass with water and off it went. Before we knew it, we had roots spilling out of a glass! So, Mom and Dad took me to the nursery and let me pick out a pot. When we came home with our new pot, we planted the sprouting seed and they let me put it in the spot on the deck right in front of my bedroom window. I named the plant "Boy." I water it every other day and it continues to grow! It has ten leaves now (and yes, I can count to ten). Here is one of Boy's baby photos. More to come.

My first haircut!

So, Mom and Dad thought it was cute that my hair was all crazy and curly in my eyes and in my face... FINALLY Bryan came over in late July and took care of all of us. I got a haircut, my FIRST haircut, with Mom and Dad! There was a lot of hype about the whole thing, but to be honest, I was just happy for all of the attention and the freedom to eat my favorite crackers out of a measuring cup during dinner time. Oh, and now I can see clearly and don't have to push hair out of my eyes all day long :)

Yoga with Masa

We had an amazing visit with Miles ("Masa") in July / August. We had such a special time together... he taught me some yoga and just spent some special time with my family and me. For days after he left I kept turning my palms up at my side and saying: "Masa?... Masa?"

ROAD TRIP!

Mom took the week off from work last week and it was Our Time. We stayed close to home for a couple of days to enjoy a pair of play dates (yay Morgan and Logan!) and then got on the 101 heading south. The next up are pictures of us in Malibu where we visited Claudia and Sophia (I have so much FUN with Sophia!!) and enjoyed the beach and their menagerie. A couple of weekends ago, we set out after a nap for a stroll or hike. We headed into Cascade Canyon and found ourselves at the base of the Tenderfoot Trail. Encouraged by another hiker, we went for it - not knowing that it would be four hours and several spectacular views later that we'd finally return home. We went up Tam to the Mountain Home Inn, crossed the side of the foothill on Panoramic and then came down the Dipsea Steps. Beautiful!

There are a lot of pictures to share... here are some of us hanging out at home. In one, I am having a nice little dinner with Evi. In another, Uncle Tiy is teaching me how to go through a woman's purse when she is in the shower (Evi's, of course). On Saturday, we walked to a park, picked up burritos on the way home (Evi slept along the way) and then everybody had a late lunch on the deck while I was taking my nap.

Mom and I went to an Easter Egg Hunt at the Mill Valley Community Center on Saturday morning. There were so many children there! We had a blast... and I learned that Easter eggs are super-fun to fill with dirt :)

Last week we came home from a visit with our extended Mak family. Sadly, it was a trip to celebrate, remember and say goodbye to Grandpa... however, despite the circumstances, we all had a very special time together as a family. Wow... who knew bowling would be so fun! Despite the fact that I can't quite pick up those huge and heavy bowling balls, Mom and Dad helped me try once or twice. Though we didn't get it on film, running and slipping down the lanes was the most fun for me (and almost had us all kicked out!!).

A Special Visit to The Academy of Sciences

We all needed to get out of the house and just be on Friday, so we went to the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco where we saw and watched life in many amazing forms. Mom's favorite picture in a long time is the one of me looking back over my shoulder...

One of my favorite things to do is play in the creek next to our house. Dad takes me down there all the time to throw rocks, get wet, find bugs, you name it. Last Sunday the Leu family came over and we went down there with Maggie. We found a worm too!
